Fate of Cheltenham's historic Laverock Estate Still Unknown

The future of the historic Laverock Hill estate in Cheltenham has residents up in arms. The mansion on the property dates back as early as 1890 and sits on 43 acres. Hansen-Lloyd, a Blue Bell development firm, plans to build a 55+ community on 10.97 of the 43 acres. The plan for Laverock Hill includes demolishing the mansion and the formal gardens which were designed by Ellen Biddle Shipman. By putting an age restriction on the eight four-story buildings which will contain 216 planned units, developers may be exempt from Cheltenham Township's Preservation Overlay District. Hansen-Lloyd previously added housing units to the historic Normandy Farm in Blue Bell.
